In the last 7 years, there has been a massive growth at Eastlands College of Technology (ECT). The College has totally embraced the culture of giving quality technical training in conjunction with the industries and society at large. This has made the College one of the best TVET Colleges in Kenya and by extension East and Central Africa running the Dual Training System (DTS).
A Dual Training System (DTS) is where students have a chance to train at an institution as well as in a relevant company that assists in generating competent human resources for the country.
Within the 7 years of its operation, ECT has made milestones in supporting and empowering the youth who study at the College. This has made it possible for the institution to assist the youth in opening up their world of opportunities alongside the trade units.
In the last 7 years, the College has also grown in partnership with various government agencies, local and international technical and vocational institutions, local and international non-governmental institutions, private companies, and foundations with a view to promoting industrialization in Eastern Africa, and improving the economic wellbeing of the vulnerable youth and their families, through good workmanship. For instance, the College just concluded a training of Engineers from the Republic of Somalia in the field of Electrical Installation. ECT is spreading out fast and its dream is to be ranked as one of the best Colleges in Africa.
ECT is offering Diploma Courses, Pre-Engineering Programs, Evening Courses, and Open Programs. So far, it has rolled out Diploma in Automotive Engineering (DAE), Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (DEEE), Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME) and Diploma in Information Communication Technology (DICT) all offered using the DTS approach.
One of the Pre-engineering courses offered is Automotive Technology Combined (ATC); it is currently in very high demand due to the growth witnessed in the automotive sector. With the advent of Electrical Vehicles in the Kenyan market, many companies are looking for workers who are well prepared to work on electric vehicles.
The next Pre-engineering course is Electrical Technology (ELT) which attracts high applications due to the emergence of automation in electrical systems and industrial processes. As the world is moving towards alternative sources of energy like Solar power ECT has structured this program to incorporate training on Solar Installation technologies.
Mechanical Maintenance Technology (MMT) is another Pre-engineering course offered that entails plumbing, welding, and fabrication. This aims at training competent welders who can produce welded products that will meet the demands of the local and international market through the use of safe welding practices and adherence to international welding standards. In this same program, we seek to train plumbers who are able to offer high-end plumbing solutions that are now in great demand in the market.
