Principal Secretary Dr Esther Thaara Muoria visit Eastlands College of Technology
The Principal Secretary (PS) for Ministry of Education – TVET Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria visited Eastlands College of Technology on Thursday January 19, 2023 in her bid to promote Dual Training System #dts Education in Kenya.
The trip of the Principal Secretary intended to cements the relationship between Swisscontact and Eastlands College of Technology with the hope of having the PropelA program spread to other trades in other colleges, counties and countries across East and Central Africa.
ECT has been offering DTS since its inception in 2015. The System has proven extremely successfully with a job placement rate of 70% and above of its graduates. The DTS that the College implements has its students spending half the time at the training institution and the other half at the industry for their On-Job Training with the earn as you learn concept. This system is already being implemented at the technician level and has just been introduced at the Diploma level with all the Diploma students being placed at the different industries.
Moreover, in the latest quality audit report from Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) Kenya , the College had a weighted mean score of 81% with 100% score at Training Delivery.
It is in this light that Swisscontact partnered with the College in implementing the PropelA Program with the intention of having students spend 75% of their learning at the industry and 25% at the College.
