Motor Vehicle Electrical Training in Eastlands College of Technology (ECT).

Motor Vehicle Electrical Practical Session

A Training of Trainers (TOT) as well as training the profession in the motor vehicle industry took place at Eastlands College of Technology (ECT) from Tuesday 18^th April 2017 to Saturday 22^nd April 2017. The facilitator of the training was Mr. Christof, an electricity expert from Germany, who was brought in by Frankfurt’s chamber of skilled crafts. The seminar was to set the foundation for a more advanced training on motor vehicle electrical that would come a week later by Mr. Daniel Gasch, a master craftsman; also from Germany.

The seminar dwelled mostly on the motor vehicle electrical power concepts but with a strong emphasis on the

practical aspects and their applications inside a motor vehicle. The concepts covered were measurement of voltage, current, resistance and power. The theoretical bit involved coming up with formula and calculating the above measurements. The participants would then proceed to the workshop and prove their measurements and findings obtained in theory practically in the ECT workshop.

When asked of his opinion about the seminar, jovial Joseph Ndung’u, a trainer ECT replied: “At first, after reading through the content of what we were going to cover in the seminar, I’d been tempted to think that this will be a walk in the park; because these are the same thing we’d learnt as from high school. But as we began the seminar, Mr. Christof brought in a whole new concept and points were driven home instantly”.  Apart from himself being enlightened, he also learnt how to transfer the same knowledge to the students in an interactive and practical way just like Christof.

At the end of the seminar, the forth of thanks was given by Ms. Sharon and Mr. Emmanuel Choge, a representative from the Germany chamber of commerce and Eastlands College of Technology respectively. Both challenged the participants to apply the concepts learnt in the seminar in the day to day operations at their workshops as well as in their training institutions.

Mr. Christof thanked the participants and hoped that one day he will be given a chance by the Chamber of Commerce once more to come back to Eastlands College of Technology for the same again. He praised his students for their active participation throughout the entire training period.
