The new intake kicked off on May 8th 2017 with the orientation of new students being the highlight of the day. These were students who had enrolled in various courses offered in Eastlands College of Technology (ECT), notably: Automotive Technology, Plumbing, Welding and Fabrication, Electrical Wireman and Electronic Mechanics.
Excited freshmen were seated attentively as they were taken through the entire process by various authorities in the College. The event began with the students touring around the College led by Mr. Meshack Muambi, the College Examination Officer. At 10:00 am they were assembled and were introduced to the College’s teaching staff and taken through vital documents and procedures that would make their stay in the College fruitful.

Mr. Emmanuel Oduor, the Finance and Administrative Director was the master of ceremony. He briefed the students shortly on the history of the College. Mr Oduor while elaborating on student finance, said that the Kenya’s Higher Loans Education Board (HELB) had made an agreement with ECT to finance student education. The College has also partnered with KCB’s TUJIAJIRI program that finances 95% of the student’s tuition fee.
Mr. Jeremiah Nyarotso, the College Registrar, urged the students to do their work well and follow the laid down procedures in all their undertaking. Case in point, he told them to observe punctuality and workshop rules and regulation when working from the workshop.

He emphasized that the ECT fraternity is one big family with trainers acting as big brothers and students being the younger brothers. Furthermore, he reminded the freshmen of their sense of ownership of the College. He winded by saying, “Maintain the standards you found, and once you are done, leave it the way you found it or even better, improve the standard.”
The session came to an end at around 12:00 noon, with students breaking off ready to begin their classes. The deadline for the intake ends in May 2017.
