About Us

Eastlands College of Technology (ECT) is a project of Strathmore Educational Trust, a Public Charitable Trust established in Kenya. The College has been in the making since 2003, when the Informal Sector Business Institute (ISBI) was created with the help of the Austrian NGO ICEP to train Micro entrepreneurs on basic business skills and ICT training for the youth. Over 5000 people took part in these courses and more than 500 entrepreneurs participated in Informal Sector Business Institute (ISBI) capacity building activities and could improve their income potential.

Informal Sector Business Institute built up an excellent reputation within the micro entrepreneurs community as well as other actors in the field of entrepreneurial empowerment, such as Grassroots Business Initiative (GBI) of the International Finance Corporations (IFC).

The College caters for the formal sector by creating permanent linkages with corporations through the implementation of Dual Training System in ICT, Electrical and Electronics Installation Systems and Industrial Maintenance; and is building upon the experiences of ten years of ISBI for micro entrepreneurs in the informal sector.

Eastlands College of Technology is in line with government strategies to attain poverty alleviation and economic growth hence the need for improved technical training through Dual Training System (DTS).
